Reflecting on goals...

Set a goal that you have 50% likelihood of achieving.  That way, you are challenged, but it is still within your abilities.

For most people, 3-5 goals are manageable.

An attitude that I want to embrace is whoever has the most stories and adventures at the end of their life wins.  Live full, die empty.

"Here’s the great seduction of a human life: we postpone doing what matters most until some time in the future when we hope it will all be easier." Robin Sharma

My new year's resolution was to do more push-ups.  I have been keeping up with 50 push-ups per day.  Ultimately, my motivation is a stronger core and upper body, and to improve my posture.  It's also a catalyst to do something physical every day.  I often tack it on the start or end of a workout.

While I'm on physical goals, I've been working on an ergometer goal (indoor rowing machine) of 3 x 500m under 1:40, with 1 min rest between each 500m.  I'm almost there.  Here's my progression:
  • Jan 8: 1:45.2, 1:45.0, 1:44.5
  • Jan 11: 1:43.7, 1:42.6, 1:44.3
  • Jan 16: 1:42.2, 1:42.3, 1:42.2
  • Jan 17: 1:40.7, 1:42.7, 1:41.0
  • Jan 25: 1:38.9, 1:40.7, 1:42.8
  • Feb 12: 1:40.3, 1:40.6, 1:41.4
  • Feb 13: 1:39.6, 1:39.7, 1:42.1
I've signed up for a 1/2 marathon happening May 5, 2018.  Last year, I ran 1:25.55.  My personal best is about 1:21, a few years ago.  I've wanted to go sub-1:20 for some time.  I can do it if I commit to it, and start now.  76 days to go!  That's 10 weeks.  Definitely need a game plan.

Ok, so I'm already at 3 goals and haven't even got to the other aspects of my life:
  • Work
    • explore the HBR leadership modules
  • Financial
    • start a passive income project
  • Mental
    • listen to podcasts daily - start with Tim Ferris
  • Family
    • Spend more one-on-one time with kids
  • Spiritual
    • Volunteer on a church project
  • Lifestyle
    • Take transit at least 1/week
  • Relationships
    • Strengthen current friendships with at least 3 people
I need to revisit all of these with a plan of action for 2018.
